Why a Mix of Surveying and Architectural Experience Makes a Difference

When commissioning a measured building survey, accuracy is essential. However, understanding how that information will eventually be used by an architect is just as important.

At Archilink Surveys, we deliberately employ a mix of experienced surveyors and architecturally trained staff. This combination brings together strong surveying knowledge with an understanding of architectural design, drawings and modelling.

From capturing the building on site through to producing the final AutoCAD drawings or Revit model, having both skill sets within our team helps us deliver accurate, practical information that architects can work with straight away.

Combining Surveying and Architectural Experience

Measured building surveys require more than one skill set.

Our experienced surveyors bring knowledge of surveying techniques, LiDAR capture, site conditions and how to accurately record complex buildings. Alongside them, our architecturally trained staff understand how that information will ultimately be used during the design process.

By combining these backgrounds, we can approach each project from both perspectives.

We aren't simply capturing a building. We are thinking about the information an architect will need once they begin working on their proposals.

From Site Survey to Finished Drawings

At Archilink, we use Leica LiDAR scanners to capture detailed building information and create an accurate point cloud of the existing property.

Once the site survey is complete, this data is processed before our team begins producing the required architectural information.

Depending on the project, this could be 2D AutoCAD drawings, a 3D Revit model or a SketchUp model.

Having architecturally trained staff involved in this process means we understand how these deliverables fit into an architect's workflow, while the surveying experience within the team ensures the information they are based on has been captured correctly.

Understanding What Matters on Site

Buildings are rarely straightforward, particularly older properties, converted buildings and complex commercial sites.

Changes in floor levels, unusual wall thicknesses, extensions, roof structures and architectural features can all be important when an architect begins developing a design.

Our combination of surveying and architectural experience helps us recognise these details while we are on site and understand why they could be important later.

Where information cannot be properly captured from ground level, we can also use drone photogrammetry alongside our LiDAR surveys to help create a more complete dataset.

Working Alongside Architects

We work with architects every day, so our aim is to make the measured building survey process as straightforward as possible.

By combining experienced surveyors, architecturally trained staff and modern surveying technology, we can provide accurate existing building information in a format architects can use straight away.

With teams operating from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester and London, Archilink Surveys provides measured building surveys across a large part of the UK.

If you have an upcoming project, email your requirements to info@archilink.co.uk, and our team will be happy to provide a same-day quotation.
